Life (and Art) Updates

Well hello Blogger Buddies and Facebook Friends.  I hope you all have had a good Thanksgiving and the break there of. I have two bits of news that will put a smile on your face (or at the very least giving you one of those little internal "oh okays" but I am shooting for SMILES :D.)

Part I- New Paths

My first bit of news is that I am now an official Fine Art Student! Yes, I have finally switched from a Theatre Acting to Fine arts Illustration, meaning I can now focus more on my art work. Now I will say, I have enjoyed much of my time in the department and adore many of the people in the department ,and I am sad to leave them and many of the possibilities that could still be hand as an Acting Major. But I have spent much time and deliberation on this subject, and I feel that Fine Arts is a better fit for for my needs and aspirations and will help me gain a set of skills that I want to advance and help grow. I have learned much from my time in the department ,and fear not I am not leaving completely. I will still be pursue a Theatre Minor and I believe there is much more I can learn in the department. But for now I am going to go out and strike a new path, for better or worse and pursue my dreams. So for those of you in the Theatre Department, you haven't seen the last of me, not by a long shot. ;).

PART II- Comics

My second bit of news, seeing that this is an art blog as well, I am proud to show you all my second comic created for the Comic battling site EnterVoid.

My character on EnterVoid.com, David Birch, a gadgeteer genius and intrepid sewer explorer of Void City, has gone on an adventure to meet up with one Bro named Leland, a monk of Bodacia (belonging to the awesome AmanitaZest :DA) lost/exploring the sewers of Void City.

David Birch Vs Leland

I would post some pages but by rule I am not allowed to post them before the voting deadline is up and I would rather you see Zest's work as well as mine seeing that it is dang good.

Also coming up in the next two months is going to be another battle which will take much longer but will also be greater in scope and story. A Five Way/ Five Part Battle where in David meets an assortment of awesome ladies in order to save the lives of a city.

David Birch vs. Marie Fitzpatrick vs. Elle vs. Lophii Formes vs. Arena

This is going to be a big battle for me. We are going to be doing a over arching story that is to be told in five parts all from the perspectives (or at least loose perspective) of our characters. Adventure, action, and epic battling is to be had by all! SO! Clear your calenders on January 28th as EnterVoid.com proudly presents a match to remember. :)

Also, at the moment on Void there is a tournament happening that has just entered into the semi-final round involving some rather talented artists and their characters. They are worth a peak as all comics on Void are free to read. So come on over to the fun, promise not to disappoint. :D

Take care out there! :)

Graphics and Fun.

A graphic for the Purdue v. Minnesota game. A nice Caddy Shack homage.

HungryBoiler.com Graphic for a story. Ended up having on the Exponent website instead of the actual paper but still at least it was used..

A graphic for a live radio broadcast of Dr. Strangelove. A pretty simple one and nice I think.

Not a graphic but a pic I did for my voice class for a poem. This is the most well-crafted pic out all the ones I did for it and one that I like the most. :)

Doing Graphics for the Exponent has been a great experience and I hope to do more like it in the future. :)

Art Update!

Well I haven't done any new graphics for the Exponent (yet) but I still have some nice little treats as seen below:
Meet CentiGator! This was a project that I had to do for my Intermediate Drawing Class and I have to say I loved it.
Though the original concept isn't mind, in class we were to swap unused concept sketches we came up with and made our own version. This one in particular was a Crocodile, Frog, Centipede, Submarine, and Blue Jay.
Next to Final Rendering! I have to say my least favorite part of the job is shading. It is long tedious and takes away from the shape and form (though is done right can enhance both.) Still, Centigator is a tough old Reptile-Insect Hybrid and he can't wait to crawl up your toilet soon. :D
A step away from the fantastical to more grunt work. This is a colored version of a comic I did for my first round of the EnterVoid Invitational Tournament and when I turned it in it was not this nice. It had stupid cross hatching and one background color too dark for the lines. But after I was eliminated from the first round I went back to College and as time went on I got better and better at coloring and found better brushes to make the job easier. So here you go. :)
My most recent endeavor, a picture of 4 characters from EnterVoid.com. They all have respective owners but only two of them will be fighting with theirs while the other two are being used in good faith as per Entervoid tradition. I made this in honor of their upcoming fight so here we are. :)
Well, more to come in the future. :)

Some Drawing Fun

I have finally bought some new lead for my .9 mechanical pencil as well as non-photo blue pencil lead for my drafting pencil (which is a darling of a tool)

Here is are a few products that I drew during my down time during rehearsal.

  More to come. Enjoy. :)

My First Idea: The 100 Questions

I had this idea just now but it is probably something that is very important to anything as far as writing goes. In my readings and searches for ideas of how to greater expand my writing ability I have searched and found maybe a few sites and a handful of interesting articles Though I still need to delve deeper and maybe even *gulp* pay for something to better expand my understanding. I have, however, found in my readings a rather insightful and interesting tool that I will link thusly:

The 100 Questions List

This little beauty of a list is the 100 questions that you ask about a character you are writing about in order to better develop them as a believable character. Many of the questions are about events in the characters life, about their world view and such and all cut to the core of what makes a character what they are whether by just taking a few issues to be used as a character device (made to be a background character that does or doesn't get much development or is there purely as a tool to drive the plot or to provide something to conflict with the character and bring out traits in him) or fleshing them out for an entire person in their own right making them well rounded in all their ways (they are a main protagonists or an important secondary character heck even the villain depending on what story you want to write.)

Anyway, what I want to do with this list is flesh out a character I am working on at a site called Entervoid.com (nice place really though a bit NSFW in some places) that involves drawing and writing a character and pitting them, in comic book form, against another creators character with the intent to improve your skills as an artist/writer.

The character I am going to be using to flesh out is David Birch:

Here is a link to his Character Sheet.

David is my current and first character and though I have yet to make any real good comics with him quite yet. I have established him to a point where he could be a rather enjoyable character to write for I think but I still I feel he needs some expanding as far as his world view, and personal experiences in order to have long lasting marks on his personality and for those marks to better explain his personality.

So, I am going to subject him to the 100 Questions, one by one in order to flesh him out as well as his supporting cast (though mainly his Uncle Murphy up there in the orange.) Along with the improving on his design and my art in general I will pick different questions to explore about him picking them one at a time for each new post and expand upon it until I have made a solid who? what? where? when? and how? to guide me in his development as a character. They won't for the most part be in numerical order but more in order of importance to his character, hitting the issues that are the most important to him, essentially starting him out as a flat character) and then starting to expand into other topics to better round him out (or to just address the certain attributes about him that I will have to grapple with in each new battle on Entervoid.)

Of course I will be working on other characters aside from David for other such projects and such but David will be the main one and I welcome any feed back on these developments in the most civil and constructive ways possible. So please join me in this wondrous experiment and if you want try and join in with your own characters that you are writing, if you are writing at all.

Let the mind making.... BEGIN!

New Blog, New Ideas

Hello everyone out there in, oh what's it called now? Internet? Interwebs? Intertubes? Blog-o-sphere? Blag-a-sphere? Delaware? Oh well! People of the viewing of this page, I am here to give you the first step in something that I hope will be a regular basis sort of thing. This is my second attempt at making a functioning blog and if you haven't heard of the first one then good for you. It was full of stuff from my First Year Composition Class that I totally bombed in as far as content and comprehensiveness, though for the life of me my teacher still passed me since I did the work and I finished the project (mostly...) and for that I thank her.

So, this is my new blog that I am working on and I hope it will grow to encompass my life and my work for all the people of the Inter-blag-aware to see. Aside from the regular talking about life and things that I am doing and events that occur and my ideas on them I am also going to be posting my own creative process as far as my writing (which needs some sort of outlet and this is as good as any) and my art work, and hopefully video and audio as my range of skills and understanding expand and my ideas become more cohesive and tangible in my mind. You see I have a big problem with not writing down or following through with the writing aspect of my aspiring comic making career and aside from the art writing is like half the game. So I need this blog to have that outlet and I would love it if you, who ever you maybe whether friend, lurker or my Mom could give me feed back and maybe some banter on the side.

So here is to the grand new experiment and me trying to sketch the wind!
